ophia was diagnosed in August 2005 with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare disorder primarily affecting children at a very early age.
At CHOC, Sophia has undergone numerous tests and treatments in order to fight her disease. When the Colby family found out that Sophia was going to be released after several months in the hospital, they knew they would need to renovate their home to provide a sanitary environment for their daughter. Barely surviving month to month on the dad’s income, they needed help to prepare their home for Sophia’s arrival.
The Colby family applied for a grant through the Molly’s Kids Grant Program. They used the funds to purchase two new air filtration systems, install new flooring and make other adjustments necessary to ensure Sophia a safe environment in which to manage her health.
