Alana Hamilton, Volunteer

I began volunteering for Miracles for Kids 4 years ago at the age of 13. I was very fortunate as a child because my family always encouraged me to be involved in community service. I continue to volunteer not because I have to but because I want to! It warms my heart to see the smiles on the kids’ faces when they get away from the hospital and go out to the beach and they stand up on a surfboard or paddleboard for the first time. These experiences are something these children would be unable to do if it weren’t for Miracles for Kids. In addition to the summer programs, I also deliver seasonal gifts such as Easter baskets, Christmas baskets, groceries, etc. These seasonal gifts are delivered at times in the year where there’s more of a financial strain on the families. This is a bit of a different experience because a lot of times you get to meet the parents of the sick children and you get to talk to them about their struggles. These families are so grateful and it’s incredible to feel like you can make a difference. Making deliveries and attending surf camps have definitely opened my eyes and helped me to realize how truly blessed I am. I’m so glad to be a part of such a great group of people at Miracles for Kids that makes such a difference in people’s lives.
