Year-End Challenge

(February 2025)

While on vacation, Jorge and Ana noticed that their son, Brandon, was looking pale and feeling very lethargic. Tests performed at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital revealed the devastating news that their 9-year-old son had Leukemia.

Michelle was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when her mom was 7 months pregnant with her. She was asked whether she wanted to continue with her pregnancy or terminate it. Without knowing much of what Cystic Fibrosis was, the symptoms, or the treatment for this diagnosis, she decided to continue with the pregnancy. It was not until Michelle was born that she understood the severity of her baby’s diagnosis.

Michelle uses a ventilator, through which she receives medication for her lungs. Along with the medication she also receives occupational therapy. Despite everything, Michelle is a calm, talkative, and smart little girl. She enjoys interacting with other children, the hospital staff, and the social workers.

Mom is a single parent, who works full-time to be able to keep her family afloat. She has been able to rely on her family’s emotional support and government assistance to get by. The family is extremely grateful for the continued support they have received from Miracles for Kids, as it has truly been a lifeline.
