A Miracle Moment – Alexia

(August 2026) – Meet 10-year-old Alexia, who was diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy, at just three years old. The condition causes frequent and intense seizures and has significantly affected her development. One particularly severe episode required hospitalization and intubation, after which Alexia was placed in palliative care.

Alexia is nonverbal and depends on a feeding pump, G-tube, supplemental oxygen, and ongoing care from multiple medical specialists. Because she cannot communicate verbally, her mother has learned to recognize subtle expressions and sounds that indicate when Alexia is uncomfortable or in pain.

Alexia’s diagnosis is only part of this family’s story. Her older brother, Javier, has the same rare condition and also receives palliative care. Caring for two medically fragile children around the clock has made it impossible for their parents to maintain employment, creating tremendous emotional, physical, and financial strain.
